New Years Resolutions: How to Actually Achieve Them

Love

Admittedly, when someone begins to tell me all about their new years resolutions, I fight back a gigantic eye roll. In my personal experiences, people don’t follow through with the superficial goals they set forth on January 1st. However, this is not to say that people don’t follow through with any new years resolutions… In fact, I have found that people who set meaningful resolutions meet their goals without a conscious effort. Now, you may be wondering, “How can that be true?” Well, it’s true because people who make a resolution to live happier, love more, or be present in every moment actually create a better year for themselves.

The first step in the process of identifying meaningful resolutions can be as simple as examining your priorities. Prioritize self-confidence over weight loss solutions, and your resolution will likely be more successful than completing the newest diet fad or workout trend to lose a few pounds. Prioritize happiness over self-doubt, and your mind will be on the right track. The second step towards more meaningful and successful new years resolutions is as simple as setting reminders for yourself. All it takes is one reminder per day to reset your frame of mind and refocus your attention on your priorities.

After all, new years resolutions shouldn’t be about material or superficial gain. If you focus your priorities on the importance of living a happy and healthy lifestyle surrounded by love, you may suddenly find yourself a year from now, in a better place and in a better state of mind compared to those who spent January crash dieting…
